Geteld worden branden groter dan 300 hectare met een omtrek sinds 2016 die een gemeente, al was het maar deels, hebben bereikt. De hectaren zijn die binnen de gemeente en worden per brand opgeteld, dus grond die twee keer brandde telt dubbel; daarom kan het aandeel, alleen gegeven voor gemeenten van 10 km² of meer, boven 100 % uitkomen (dan als veelvoud). Het beschrijft wat er gebeurd is: het meet geen risico en zegt niets over oorzaken.
