Fire pulse: heat detections in the last 7 days

Each dot is a heat detection by the Suomi NPP satellite in the last 168 hours, hour by hour, across the area WorldFires covers.

Between 17 Oct 2026, 22:00 UTC and 24 Oct 2026, 22:00 UTC, Suomi NPP detected 451,970 hotspots in the covered area; the busiest day was 22 October 2026, with 80,831.

What you are seeing

Each dot lights up in the hour the satellite detected heat and fades over 24 hours; the colour shows how many detections fell in that 0.5° cell (about 50 km) in that hour. Suomi NPP passes over each place twice a day, hence the sweep. A hotspot is a thermal anomaly, not a confirmed wildfire: many are agricultural burns. Fixed sources (gas flares, industry, volcanoes) have been removed. Hatched areas are outside the coverage.
