Legal notice and terms of use

WorldFires is an experimental site that brings together open data on wildfires. Use it to stay informed, never to make safety decisions: it is not an official service and its data may contain errors.

Last updated: 4 October 2026

Who is behind it

Not an emergency service

WorldFires is not an alert or emergency management system, is not linked to any official body and does not replace information from the authorities.

If you see a fire or are in danger, call 112 (or your local emergency number) and always follow the instructions of civil protection, firefighters and the authorities in your area. A fire not appearing here does not mean it does not exist, and a fire shown as active does not mean it is still burning.

What to expect from the data

Everything we publish comes from open sources, mostly satellite observations and models, and is processed automatically. Therefore:

  • There are delays: a satellite passes over only a few times a day and each source publishes with its own lag, from hours to weeks.
  • There are false positives and gaps: heat detectors sometimes mistake industry, agricultural burning, volcanoes or reflections for wildfires, and clouds or smoke can hide real fires.
  • Areas, perimeters, place names, distances and weather are estimates and may be corrected or change over time.
  • The grouping into fire pages, the names we give them and the texts that accompany them are generated by software and may contain errors.

We do not guarantee that the information is accurate, complete or up to date. Do not use it as a basis for safety, evacuation, legal, expert, insurance or investment decisions. If you spot an error, please tell us.

Availability

This is an experimental project: we may change, suspend or close the site or any part of it, including the API, at any time and without notice. We do not guarantee that it will work without interruptions or errors.

Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Doomos Real Estate S.L.U. is not liable for direct or indirect damage arising from the use of the site or its data, from decisions taken on the basis of it, from errors, omissions or delays in the information, or from interruptions of the service.

Nothing above limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for wilful misconduct or gross negligence, nor the rights that consumer law grants you.

Reusing our data and the API

The data we produce (fire pages, aggregates and series) may be reused under a CC BY 4.0 licence: credit WorldFires with a link and also the relevant original sources. The site’s design, texts and code are not covered by that licence.

The public API is free, comes with no warranty of any kind and no availability commitment. Identify your program with a recognisable User-Agent header, cache what you request and do not make more requests than needed. We may limit or block uses that degrade the service, and change or withdraw the API.

Do not present this data as official information or as emergency warnings.

Proper use of the site

You may not attack or overload the site, download it in bulk in a way that harms others, try to access non-public parts or use it for unlawful purposes.

Links to other sites

We link to third-party sites for reference. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content.

Advertising

Some pages show ads served by Google. Google chooses them, not us: their presence does not mean we recommend what is advertised. What they mean for your privacy is explained in the privacy policy.

Languages

These texts are published in several languages. If versions differ, the Spanish version prevails.

Governing law and courts

These terms are governed by Spanish law. For any dispute, the parties submit to the courts of Madrid, unless you are a consumer, in which case you may go to the courts of your place of residence.

If any clause is declared void, the rest remain in force.
